I started this last summer as a wedding present for my sister, but work was delayed on it for months when I broke my foot quite badly.
My intention with this painting was not to paint a lotus directly, but to play with translucent pigments layered to create a suggestion in the mind's eye of a lotus. If you look at it up close it is an abstract arrangement of blobs of color, but from farther away the image forms into the idea of the flower and water. Painted with acrylic, layers upon layers upon layers of pigment were used to create this effect.
